Tomorrow is voting day. I'm usually quite ambivalent about voting at all, as it only encourages them, but tomorrow I feel compelled. There is a ballot measure in California, the "Preschool For All" measuere, Prop 82.
There are few things I would oppose more vehemently. Here are some regular arguments against it.
My own are a little simpler, if a little more radical:
1. Government runs schools, government sets the agendas. Increasing the time children spend learning how to be good citizens from their government does not make for a good democracy, or anything other kind of government. We need independant thinkers, and the government doesn't want those.
2. They've managed to screw up K-12, now we want to give them MORE?
3. The LAST things children need is more time surrounded by their peers instead of bonding with their parents. "Kids these days" don't care what their parents think because they are thrown into a school system where the entire social system is structured around peers. Throwing them in a year earlier will make the situation WORSE. More on that later.
Please, if you vote in California, vote against this travesty (that would be NO on Prop 82).
