Been busy, but I've got a few things I'm working on. For now, I think I'll just have myself a quick rant to see if it makes me feel better:
A recent SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the US) decision determined that beef producers can be compelled to pay for ads they do not support (or may even be contrary to their business interests), just so long as the Government is the one doing the speech.
It's outrageous of course, but not surprising and it is quite logical in the perverse way that the SCOTUS figures logic. The government uses tax money to fund ALL KINDS of speech ALL THE TIME, so this is really nothing special. You see, the government is "Us", so whatever it has to say is actually "Us" speaking!
It hardly occurs to anyone that the government is in fact whatever politicians where able to lie to the voters most convincingly. Morons on the left complain how capitalism corrupts government because of all that horrible money. Morons on the right have in the last 10 years managed to validate that position more than they ever could have hoped, catering to every special (business) interest that has scampered their way and unleashing a spending orgy that would make Lyndon Johnson blush. Morons in the center try to make peace between the two sides so they can all get to the business of making government bigger without all this silly arguing over just HOW it's going to control peoples lives.
More and more, I'm trying to view government as something God has given us to be endured, like famines, plagues and wars, so we can learn to rely on Him instead of ourselves.
